Week 36 in Uruguay: "Going to the Beach"

April 16-April 24
Transfer Week

Going to the Beach

Tuesday – Wednesday
Tuesday was an awesome day! We taught Kiana, Andrea’s daughter, and she told us she wants to be baptized! We read the Book of Mormon with her and it was so cool. The spirit was so strong!  After we played basketball and I mean actually played. It was awesome! I shot the ball like I used to.  It was such a good feeling and was so fun to play against them. I can’t wait to step on the BYU floor next year!

Wednesday was great. I got my comp to work so that was an accomplishment haha He is going home soon and so trunky! We contacted people like crazy. We talked to this man that was going off on the United States. He hated every person that is from the states. He wouldn’t even give me the time of day. He asked my comp where he is from and he said Spain, then finally looked at me and asked LOL I definitely said Canada. I mean my pops served there so… but the best part was he talked to me and thought that Canada was beautiful.  He was awesome.  Well, we had an interview for the Hermana’s for a baptism. We traveled to Santa Lucia. I played old maid with these cute little kids. I love the kids here!

Thursday – Friday
We got our house fixed today. After, we taught Kiana the plan of salvation with drawings, it was actually super fun! Then we taught Paulina. It was so fun. The family is awesome, I taught some math and got math taught to me LOL I have forgotten a lot. The family is super humble. It’s awesome to be where people are so kind and giving.
Friday was our weekly ping-pong tourney with our branch. Everyone showed up again. So fun! I played my comp and I got him a little upset at me. My competitive side always gets the best of me. I need to be more humble.  If we can just look at the people around us and be happy and look for the good in people, you could learn a lot!

Saturday- Sunday
In church, I said bye to everyone because I’m being transferred.  It was super sad. My new area will be close to the beach in Parque del Plata. These two little girls gave me a present and I gave them a couple of my ties. They are super humble people. After I said goodbye to Silva y Herrera. They said how much they will miss me, ahh it killed me. Later we said goodbye to Paulina and her family and she gave me a present also. I just love the people here. Well on the way home a drunk man stopped us and offered us some weed. He was amazed though that I spoke Spanish. It was a rough Sunday and I’m going to miss the people here so much!

Week 35 in Uruguay: "Andrea's Baptism"

April 9-April 16

Andrea’s Baptism

Tuesday – Wednesday
Tuesday was such an awesome day! We went to Las Piedras for an interchange with the zone leaders. I got to go with Elder Hunt. We told stories the whole time super fun, but the best was being able to teach with him. He let me lead a lot and it was awesome to see the people starting to understand when we taught. So many miracles that day. It reminded me of my days with Elder Bailey. I miss you man. It was awesome! Just what I needed.
Wednesday we did a hard workout then went to a service with the Hermanas. We painted and cut branches, it was fun. Then after, I tried to help cook let’s just say I have a lot to learn. When we got home we went to Silva y Herrera.  The best miracle happened, someone offered Silva a cigarette and he said no.  I love him.  We got home and ate some good old fashion macaroni and cheese.

Thursday – Friday
Well, today was freezing!  We are now having competitions when we contact people.  Super fun and funny. We come up with the word that the other person has to say while talking to the person, so funny.   Well, we thought Alvaro.  He is reading the book of Mormon every day, it’s awesome! Andrea is so scared to get dunked haha it’s hilarious.  Well, we got home and my comp called pizza again!  The best part was the people already had the pizzas ready and didn’t even ask who it was.
Friday, we planned and then I went out to work with Elder Hunt because they did the interview for our baptism.  After, we had a ping-pong tourney with Elder Rodriguez, Baute, Alvaro, Santiago, Presidente, Fulquez and myself.   The games were so funny! I LOVE my branch!  The people are the most humble, best people ever. It came down to my comp and I and I ended up winning LOL .  My nickname is Mr. Professor now.

Saturday to Sunday
I GOT TO BAPTIZE Andrea.  The day was perfect!  When we were entering the water I felt complete peace. When I said the prayer I felt the spirit so strong.  When Andrea came out of the water she sat there and just teared up, it was the most amazing thing ever!  This is why I am here, to help bring others to feel the love from their Savior! The feeling is indescribable! Do whatever you can to help people feel of this spirit.  It is so important in the lives of others.
Sunday, we were able to give Andrea the Holy Ghost.  What a special feeling and amazing thing that was!  It was such a great day.  After, Hermano Baute and everyone was still talking about our ping-pong match.  Baute called me his hijo, so funny. We ate with Baute and I put down 6 enchiladas and about died.   The people here are so humble, I love them.  Well I had a really strong feeling to go to Paulina’s house, she was baptized a year ago. We went and visited and her whole family was over and wanted to listen to us. The lesson was AWESOME!  The spirit was so strong.  Please always listen to that still small voice!!

Week 34 in Uruguay: "Cockroach Supper"

April 2- April 9

Cockroach Supper

Tuesday-Wednesday

We went to the temple and honestly, it was the spiritual rejuvenation I needed. I had so many questions answered. There is something so special about being in the celestial room. We did a service activity for an 80-year-old woman. We cut bamboo with a machete!! It was so cool! I definitely felt like Clayton off of Tarzan haha

Thursday-Friday
We had entrevistas/interviews with our Mission President. I love talking with President Eddy. He is so awesome. After, we had a lesson with Alvaro. He is coming along, but still has a long way to go. We then had a lesson with Silva y Herrera. They are going to get baptized, but need to stop smoking. It would be great if all of you could pray for them. They need all help they can get.

Saturday-Sunday
Today we worked all day, and all day we got doors slammed in our faces. Not the best day! After, we ate Spanish rice and it was so good! We taught Andrea and she is so scared to go underwater for her baptism. We are going to baptize her next week! So excited! After we played a basketball game with these two guys. It was actually really fun. We won so we get to teach them! That night, my companion ate a cockroach! He ate a cockroach for 400 pesos, LOL so nasty!! We found it in our house… ah so bad!
Sunday was a good day. We had 5 people in our church! My companion got sick so it was kind of a boring day! I studied in Mosiah 26… go read it. It is about Christ and how He didn’t want to go through everything, but He did because He loved our Father and He loved us! “Not by my will, but thine be done.” Have a great week everyone!

Week 33 in Uruguay: "What a Conference"

March 26- April 2

What a Conference!

Tuesday-Wednesday
Tuesday was our district meeting. I was able to give a blessing to a Hermana. It was pretty cool! It’s amazing to know that we are able to receive direct help and guidance through and by our Heavenly Father. Remember nothing is too small or insignificant to have a blessing. After, we ate with our Stake President. He is organizing a game for me to play against college students. If we win, we get to teach them haha. Tuesday was a really hard day. I’m definitely trying to develop patience more and more, especially this change. This is where we can change ourselves and become leaders. We need to lead by example and always know that God and Christ are with us. D&C 84:88! Just smile and things will pass because there is good in everything.
On Wednesday, I woke up with a whole different outlook on things. My scripture study was amazing as I prayed more sincerely and found more answers in the first 16 verses of my study, than the past 2 days of studying for more than an hour. I challenge each of you to pray sincerely to our Father in Heaven and pour your soul to Him. He will answer. I testify of that! Something my mama always told me, “Do my part and God will do His.”  I’ve kept that with me since day 1 all through ball and my mission!  Wednesday, we did a service for Ninesha. We scraped/ripped paint off her house to get ready for new paint and then we ate a barbeque. So good! After, we taught Siva y Herrera with a member. It was awesome. I led the lesson and had the most powerful experience with the Book of Mormon. They are going to get baptized, I know it!

Thursday-Friday
Thursday was the best day! We went to Albero’s house to finish the service. I got so dirty! It looked like I went to the sand dunes with how much sand was on my face. After, we taught Andrea and her daughter about prophets. They are excited to see President Nelson. Kiana was hilarious. She didn’t understand that prophets have the power to speak/receive revelation for us from God. She kept saying, “Well I want to see God. How do I become a Prophet?” After, we changed and our Stake President is such a homie. He got those two guys from his work that love basketball and have a hoop in their backyard to let us come over and play a game with them. It was awesome! Of course we taught a lesson but it was the best thing ever! It was good to be able to shoot on a normal rim that wasn’t broken.  After, they told us to come back so we can play and teach our lessons to them. Before we left, their 18 year old son asked me to give him lessons on shooting. It was a really cool feeling to be able to teach someone how to shoot and play ball in a South American country.
Friday, we finally finished service with Alvaro! It looks way good. I’m super burnt! Haha We ate pig and veggies!  It was so so good. Alvaro and I had a contest who could eat more. We tied. We both couldn’t move after lol. We ate and talked to our President about our branch. It was good. I’ve also been reading in the Liahona. You guys have to read it! It’s the best. You can learn a lot.

Saturday-Sunday
General Conference! Enough said lol. The conference was absolutely amazing. Having everyone stand and sustain President Nelson was the coolest thing ever. We had so many investigators come to watch. It’s something so special to be able to be in Uruguay with members that cherish this gospel so much. I have learned so much being here. I wrote over 20 pages of notes from conference. Please write down your thoughts and feelings. Without a doubt, I sustain President Nelson with all my heart. He is the Prophet today and we have received instructions from him. This conference was a lot better because I could understand what was being said and most importantly, why people were laughing!
