Uruguay Basketball Camp

Hi Family and Friends,

Mothers Day was so fun and we had a great visit with Elder Knell. We wanted to share with everyone that a couple of weeks ago Elder Knell had a great opportunity, with several other Missionaries and his Mission President, to organize and host a basketball camp for the kids.  They had a lot of fun and he was even interviewed, all in Spanish, by three different TV stations there. He said it was such a great Missionary opportunity!  Definitely bringing his love for basketball to Uruguay.

Week 40 in Uruguay: It's Starting to Look a Lot Like Christmas

Week 39: 5/7/18-5/14/18--No Letter
Week 40: 5/14/18-5/21/18--It's Starting to Look a lot like Christmas

It’s starting to look a lot like Christmas
Tuesday - Wednesday
Ok, first thing happy late Mother’s Day to all the great moms!  We celebrated it pretty well with a baptism on Saturday. We baptized Beatrice who is 67 years old, she was so funny! She was talking about how excited she was and when she came out of the water, she goes wow now that’s a blessing. Love her! Well, Tuesday we did splits and I went and worked with Elder Maza, love that guy!  He was awesome and we worked like crazy! After, we played soccer with a bunch of kids. I scored a goal! It was awesome! Elder Maza was proud haha of course we celebrated with some ice cream. Wednesday, Elder Harper and I taught this lady that doesn’t want to know more because she thought we could date/have a girlfriend on the mission. So funny! After, we taught this family that is awesome!  Rachel that’s 41 and her daughters, Sophia  22 and Priscilla 9! I love teaching them. We should have a baptism next week for Walter. Pray for him.

Thursday - Friday
It’s so so cold here now! I wear sweats under my dress pants and two pairs of socks and for bed I sleep with two sweatshirts on. It’s definitely not summer anymore! Today, it rained like crazy. We made lunch and cut down trees for a member, it was so cool. After, we had a lesson with Maicol. We taught him all about how to recognize the spirit. The lesson was amazing! Maicol doesn’t have a job, I promised a lot of blessings to him if he can come to church. On the way home, my companion and I talked to this guy that said he is the owner of Jesus’s dog lol. So weird! Well, my comp and I have made so much hot chocolate to keep us warm haha, it’s so cold! Friday, we taught Rachel, Sophia and Priscilla.  We are teaching them English as well. All of them want to come to church. The lesson with them was awesome!  After, we taught Pablo and he asked so many questions about kids suffering and stuff, so I left him Alma 14 to read. The Book of Mormon has everything, all the answers! Well, my comp and I started reading Doctrine and Covenants together.  Love it!  I also read a quote by President Monson, if you are always looking into the future then you pile up enough tomorrows and you’ll find you’ve collected a lot of empty yesterday’s.

Saturday - Sunday
Saturday was such a funny day! We had a service activity and we replaced a roof. A guy fell, it was insane. Then, we went to the temple with Blanca. I saw people from my first area there.  I got so trunky for my other areas!  Blanca couldn’t go into the temple because her membership didn’t work yet.  I did get to see Hermana Rangel from my last area.  On the way home, my comp and I had a singing battle. Also, we talked to a guy who only speaks English, which was so funny. He swore like crazy! Oh my gosh funniest thing ever.  Sunday was so beast! We had so many investigators come to church. Rachel and her family came, miracles! After, we taught Joaquin in complete darkness. I read the Book of Mormon with like 6 to 7 cats on me, lol so weird! Love animals and all but dang lol.  After, we made pizookies, so good!!  Today was a great day!  I want to give a shout out to my bro and Mom, Happy Birthday guys, I love you!  My bro is 16 hit him up!!

Week 38 in Uruguay: "Blessings"

4/30/18-5/7/18

Blessings

Tuesday - Wednesday
Well we were walking home and I had a feeling to look down only to find a huge snake! A person gave me a shovel to kill it and they told us it’s like super venomous. Miracles! Well, we taught 5 lessons today, what a blessing, and we had a family home evening with Beatrice. We brought our D.O.M and I talked most of the time because my comp is still working on his Spanish. It was awesome though, we got asked really hard questions about, if we should forgive people who kill, problems in life, why bad things happen to good people. It was so spiritual, my comp and I work really well together. We are seeing miracles here! Since we are so close, for our workouts we run on the beach in the morning.
Wednesday, I had a miracle happen. I was riding my bike super fast and hit a pothole. I somersaulted over my bike. It hurt so bad and my bike was destroyed, but my head was ok and nothing was broken haha.  We talked to this lady that doesn’t have electricity, so we used candles. The lady didn’t want to hear anything unless we read about it in the book of Mormon. So we taught out of the book Mormon and my comp didn’t understand. It’s crazy that I was in his footsteps a couple of months ago. The blessing of the gift of tongues is real. The lesson was amazing and the spirit was really strong. The lady had about 15 cats haha.

Thursday - Friday
We had breakfast with a member. We had these biscuits and they were so good. It was Columbia food. After, we went and taught this guy named Maicol. He is awesome. He wants to live the commandments and be baptized, just needs to get married and put a ring on it lol!  We also taught this man named Pablo. Pablo is a homey! He is super old but he asked awesome questions, like why in Utah was the church restored and why did it happen in North America and not here. Super cool questions! We laughed a lot with him. I’m teaching my comp how to teach more and helping him on the way. The mission is the hardest and best two years of your life. On Friday, I have been reading in Alma 8-9 about Alma and Amulek. How cool and powerful would it be to hear them teach? Pretty amazing.  I’m trying to be like them in the mission field to be bold and have faith in that Lord, who is guiding us.

Friday - Saturday
Friday, we taught Blanca with a member, it was awesome. It was about faith and the spirit was so strong! After, we planned our week on top of our roof lol, it was awesome. We then went and taught this lady, Isabel.  I made handshakes with all the kids. We then went to the house of Beatriz. We had a whole lesson planned and I felt prompted to talk about a different thing and it was the exact thing she needed. The spirit was so strong!!
Saturday was a crazy day. We fasted and then had a lesson with Pablo. Pablo is such a homey and we showed him the church and gave him a tour. He always asks so many questions, which is awesome. We showed him a video, which was so cool. He is always laughing with us. Well, on the way home it was the scariest thing ever, we got chased by a group of guys. They were super drunk. They tried to steal our backpack and who knows what else. I have never rode a bike so fast in my life.  Ahh, It was scary! Elder Harper and I made a molten cake with ice cream and muffins, so good!

Sunday
What a day! We had 5 people come to church. I sat with Beatrice. She loves to sing but she is like three notes behind everyone else, so funny. Well, we went and taught a couple of people.  I had a feeling to touch on this door and it was this family that received us with open arms. It was crazy! I told my comp, it’s amazing how the spirit just takes over.  This family is so perfect and the spirit was so strong. I told my comp things like this only happen in the Ensign, lol.  Such a blessing! After, we had pancakes with a member and I made syrup without maple, lol we got creative.
