Week 62 in Uruguay: "The Power of the Spirit"

10/15/18-10/22/18

“The Power of the Spirit”

Tuesday
Well, we did a really awesome service for someone! We painted and cleaned houses. It’s been so hot here... Like crazy hot! We found a family to teach, it was absolutely amazing! The Spirit was so cool! We started talking to the wife and she didn’t really want anything to do with what we were teaching, but the spirit opened her heart and we had a lesson with the family! I worked with the man, the myth, the legend… Elder Halls! It was awesome and we found so many people. One was a guy named William! William is drinking 3 liters of wine and 2 liters of beer daily! Crazy! I don’t even drink that much water! Hahaha, but he wants to change his life. He read the Book of Mormon for 5 hours straight! We had an amazing lesson with him… He is going to be baptized!!

Wednesday - Friday
Wednesday we went to Montevideo! I’m officially Uruguayan! I signed and we ate the best pizza in Uruguay. It was a 6 hour bus ride there, and another 6 hours back! Haha. Thursday we traveled to Minas, which is 4 hours away for a conference. The conference was amazing! President Eddy is truly a man of God. So we returned that day and that means I rode a bus for 20 hours in 2 days. Crazy! Later we taught and gave Duby a blessing, which was amazing! We also taught Alicia. Alicia has the cutest daughter! Please pray for Alicia, she is awesome! Friday we taught William. This guy is awesome! He’s been progressing like crazy! We gave him a blessing, it was super spiritual! After we played futbol and I am finally getting better! I scored two goals! Haha improvement

Saturday - Sunday
Saturday was the day! I did a ton of leg workouts on Friday and well… I learned that legs being sore and the mission don’t work well together! I was like a zombie walking haha! We had a Noche de hogar, which was incredible and taught a ton of people! There was a huge futbol game, so it was super hard to get inside the door to have a lesson. Sunday was a crazy spiritual day! We had 5 people come to church! We taught William and he continues to progress. He has the tiniest house and is super humble. After the lesson with William, we taught Duby. Duby was super mad at the Church because we won’t give him money for his rent. We changed the topic to Christ and talked about the Atonement and how He suffered for us. He softened up and almost started to cry… There is such power in the Atonement of Jesus Christ. We gave him a blessing… The Spirit was definitely working through me. Duby changed and the Spirit was so strong… it was amazing!

Remember we are not alone! Trust, obey, and then receive!

Week 61 in Uruguay: “Puede Llamarme Tu Barber”

10/8/18-10/15/18
“Puede Llamarme Tu Barber”

Tuesday - Wednesday
Well, Tuesday I cut Elder Perez’s hair! Let’s just say, I think I’m opening up a barbershop when I get home. I gave Elder Perez a nice fade haha, it was actually so sick.  We definitely had a little too much fun with it. Wednesday was changes and we now have a gringo in the house besides me! Let’s go!!  We picked him up and then we had to return to the house to put things away. We set a goal to give away 4 Book of Mormon‘s in 2 hours. Yeah, we gave away all of the books and found someone to be baptized!

Thursday - Friday
Thursday, we went on an intercambios. I worked with Elder Tolman.  He is a stud from Cali. We contacted a lot of people and taught a lady in sign language. The spirit was so amazing! The gift of tongues exists! No matter how hard something is, if we trust in God everything is possible! I also made a great lunch, noodles, some cheese from the mac & cheese packet and meat. Turned out not too bad, it was even edible haha.  After, we taught Duby, he is struggling so please pray for him.  After, we taught Manuela. The spring here is so incredible! Friday, it rained so hard. It was freezing! This country is crazy. One day, it’s super hot and the next day super cold. It’s been good though, I’ve gotten so many calls from missionaries asking for advice or to help solve their problems. I’m like the dad of the zone lol. Well, we also found a lady that has a boyfriend who is 31 she is 15 haha, not okay!

Saturday - Sunday
We had a fun activity with the ward. We played so many games. We played ping-pong, and if I have gotten better at anything its ping-pong!  Sunday, we taught a ton of people. I got to bare my testimony and there is something special about bearing your testimony. After, I got to go with a member to give the Santa Cena. It was so amazing! Well, remember what Elder Uchtdorf told us in Conference, No Regrets! Do everything you can now!

Week 60 in Uruguay: "La Gran Conference"

10/1/18-10/8/18

La Gran Conference

Lunes – Martes
Monday we taught these 3 guys. One of the guys asked some pretty strange questions and my comp got a little upset and does not want to return back to the house. Tuesday, we woke up at 1:30am and went to our “Jedi training” lol in Montevideo.  It was the best ever!  I got made fun of like the whole day.  Elder Perez cut my hair and well yeah, word of advice, DO NOT let a missionary cut your hair.  I mean at least it was free but it was awful!

Miércoles – Jueves
Miércoles we played soccer.  I’m still not good.  Just so you know, lol.  We also taught Duby.  He’s opened up to us a lot.  I love the questions people ask.  It was so funny. Thursday, I woke up at 11:30pm!  Yeah, got a solid hour of sleep, haha.  We left to go back to Montevideo so I could get my Uruguay ID.  I’m a legit Uruguayan!!!  Well, we came back and bought dinner and then taught a family. We put a date for someone to be baptized. I had the strongest feeling to give the dinner we bought to them. We figured out the next day they didn’t have anything to eat that day and they were praying for help.  The Spirit is so cool!!

Viernes– Sábado
Today we passed by a family and the family gave us some food, it was so good!  The family is super poor, so it definitely was a sweet thing.  Saturday was the amazing Conference!  I came into it with questions and received my answers.  Conference is amazing!

Domingo!
Sunday was CRAZY!  We were running around inviting everyone to come to Church to watch Conference.  It was an awesome day and Duby went.  Also, we had a lady that is deaf come.  I played with her little boy.  The lady is so humble.  We communicated through typing on a phone. It was awesome!  We are going to start learning Spanish sign language now. It is different from American Sign Language.  Such an amazing day!

Week 59 in Uruguay: "20 Añitos! Milagritos"

9/24/18-10/1/18

20 Añitos!  Milagritos

Martes- Miércoles
So on Tuesday, we did an intercambio. I went with someone named Elder Vaca, haha which means “Elder Cow”, super funny. We had a good day as we passed by a lot of people. Wednesday was the best day ever! It was my Birthday! I’m 20! Like what, I feel like I should just be going into high school. It was a great day! The hermanas made brownies, my comp made me a cake and President Eddy took us out to eat. We went to a way good restaurant. Super good! Later that night, we passed by investigators that wished me a Happy Birthday. We were playing with their kids. I love kids here haha. We also taught a 19 year old who is married to a 46 year old! Like dang haha.

Jueves - Viernes
Thursday, we ate with the Bishop and it was super good, they cooked Asado for us! So so much meat. It was crazy. His wife kept encouraging us to eat more. After, they gave me a cake with my name on it. I love the Bishop! Little things mean the most. Well, we taught a familia and I taught them about baptism and did a magic trick. They were all amazed haha, it was so funny! It was the best. They were going crazy.  After we passed by this lady and it was amazing, I haven’t felt the Spirit that strong. I started saying things that I have never said before. She told me that she has been praying for answers and has been crying for a while.  She said, “I read her eyes,” it was amazing!  It was exactly what she needed to hear. The Spirit is pretty amazing!  Friday, we went out and worked because the weather finally cleared up. The weather has been super bad this week. We played a little futbol with the kids, but I couldn’t because I hurt my back so I grabbed my basketball and decided to do a few tricks for the kids.  I spun the ball on my finger and all the kids got in a giant circle around me and counted to 100. I showed them some dribbling drills and they thought it was all pretty dope.

Sábado- Domingo
Saturday was one of the worst storms here. We had a ”Red Alert“ that said we couldn’t leave. Well, one of the hermanas had a panic attack so we left in the storm to give her a blessing. I kid you not the streets were covered! The water was up to my knees!! One thing I realized was how important is the Priesthood. We walked 20 minutes in a lightning storm to give a blessing. The look on the hermanas face told it all. I am beyond lucky to hold this priesthood! This is why missionary work is so important. We need more worthy holders to continue ministering! The feeling I had while giving that blessing made it all worth it. After we walked out, a house was on fire from a lightning bolt. Oh my gosh, it was a crazy day. I’ve never seen so many close lightning bolts! My comp kept saying “don’t be afraid we are serving the Lord”, what a day!  Sunday, we talked to this man and the spirit was so strong! I felt the Lord really telling me the things I needed to say. Read DyC 45:62.  Great things are yet to come, just be patient.

Week 58 in Uruguay: "Service and Sunburn"

9/17/18-9/24/18

Service and Sunburn

Tuesday - Wednesday
Wow what a day! We got a cake, well the hermanas got us a cake for someone’s birthday haha and well it had wine in it! Straight up, I died after the first bite, it tasted so BAD! The hermanas felt terrible! Well, after that we gave 2 blessings to two guys, which was really cool because we helped an 18 year old member give a blessing which he has never given one yet. We then found a guy and put a fecha to be baptized! It was amazing. The spirit was so strong! Wednesday, we taught two new people that were miracles, super cool and humble people. We saw a guy taking selfie‘s in the middle of the street, lol. The poses he was doing killed me! I was dying, haha. Also we saw a cat have a 1 on 1 duel with a snake! Little bit of animal planet live, haha.

Thursday - Friday
I did an intercambio with Elder Espinoza! Oh my gosh, he got me thinking a lot. He lost someone close to him while in the mish and is someone super humble. It really changed my outlook on a lot of things. Later, we played futbol with little kids that were so happy to play with us. It was the best thing ever. Overall I learned a lot of things this week with this guy! Friday, we did a four hour service project. We made/built a roof out of concrete! It was awesome, but it was hot! I definitely got to see how fast and hard people work to get things done. I fried haha! The results; tired body, worn hands, sunburned but a happy family and really that’s all worth it. We also found this lady to teach. I had the strongest feeling to pass by her so we did. She is so humble. It was amazing! The spirit never fails to lead if we are willing to listen. That night we played futbol. The ball ended up popping so we played some basketball!! Everyone kept saying it’s not fair haha it was awesome. I definitely miss playing the game!

Saturday - Sunday
It was so hot today! I was asked to give two blessings today, one to an investigator, the other to our Bishop. Sunday, well it has been one of the worst storms that I have been in here. It was super windy, thunder and lightning and a complete downpour of rain!! We were soaked from head to toe but it was all worth it this week! “One of God’s greatest gifts to us is the joy of trying again, for no failure ever needs to be final” -Thomas S Monson

Love you all!
